Course Setup Principles

To simplify the experience of DTU Learn for both teachers and students, we have outlined ten principles.

The first two are reminders of important study rules, while the remaining eight focus on course creation.

Reminders from the Study Rules

8 Course Setup Principles

  1. Announcements are used for important updates.
  2. General course information such as course plans, teaching locations, contact information, reading materials etc. are put in an easily accessible place, either in the first unit of Content or on the course Homepage (frontpage).
  3. Units in Content are named systematically, preferably using the format "[Week/Day] # - [Topic]" e.g. "Week 1 - Introduction" or "6: Acids and bases" and all units have a description of what that unit contains and the learning objectives for that session.
  4. All activities (Assignments, Quizzes, Discussions, Videos) are linked or embedded in the relevant units in Content and have a description of what is expected of the students to do, and what they can expect to gain from that activity.
  5. All videos are uploaded to Panopto Guide
  6. If self-enrolment groups are used in the course, a due date is set for the enrolment before the due date of the assignment.
  7. If Discussions are used, the setting for anonymous posts is enabled.
  8. The Grades tool is not used without having watched the webinar on how to use Grading in DTU Learn or completing the self-study course.
